Fowey Royal Regatta: 19th-25th August 2007
This is one of Britain’s premier sailing events and offers a week of great entertainment for all. The atmosphere in town is buzzing – a real must see for visitors. There’s always something on, from live bands and children’s entertainment on the Town Quay, to the Red Arrows and a guaranteed-to-impress fireworks display. Most of the events are free, & those that it is necessary to charge for are not inhibitive. This year the Fowey Royal Regatta leads into Polruan Regatta on Monday 27th.

Fowey Triathlon: For the athletically inclined (or menopausal male), this event offers the chance to compete in a 600m open swim across the Fowey river, 29k bike ride from Polruan to Lostwithiel and a 12k run back to Fowey (through the farm). Since turning 40, Simon’s competed every year – and insists that he enjoys the challenge. ‘After a swim across the estuary you are greeted by a hill which would give a mountain goat vertigo. Although technically known as 'a triathlon', for many it is a swim, bike, push bike, run, walk, run, finish. You may wish to amend that format on the day. Don't let me put you off, It's a great day out and a adventure. Why just do a triathlon when you can 'race the Fowey', an Ironman without the distance’.

Golant Sports Day and Carnival: 18th August 2007
This is an annual event when the village is decked in bunting and invites all to enjoy a day of silliness – afternoon races on the village green for the children, fancy-dress and a promenade around the village to the tune of the Floral Dance before judging. An enjoyable evening can then be spent at the Fisherman’s with live entertainment, and fine ales. This year the fun and frolics are to be held on 18th August.

The Great Golant Raft Race:
Happens on the following day, at 11.30am. Each year, starting at the quay, a variety of home made rafts do their best to navigate to the far side of the river and back amidst the general mayhem of flour bombs and competitive rivalry. (safety boats are always in attendance) If you can’t make a raft and enter a team then go an watch; it’s a fine spectacle!
